design tips

  1. Love everything in your home. If the energy you get from a belonging does not make you feel good, it has to go.
  2. Less is more. One of the biggest mistakes people make is crowding a room with furniture and accessories. It is wonderful to display your favorite things but keep in mind your eye needs a place to rest.
  3. Do not be afraid of color. For many deciding on a color pallet is often the most stressful part of the design plan. Choosing color is a stressor because we know color is related to mood, creates emotions, and can even make a room look bigger or smaller. Transforming a room can be as easy as painting. So be bold, fearless and always remember paint color is inexpensive and fairly easy to change.
  4. When decorating an entire room plan your work and work your plan. Choose all of the elements you will use to decorate your space before implementing any one piece of the puzzle. This will allow you to keep options open and will give you a good idea of what the room will look like when completed.
  5. Lighting is a key element in every room. Use lighting not only to illuminate a space but as a focal point.
  6. Paint color on your ceilings.
  7. If your entire home is painted find a central room to use wallpaper. Wallpaper is great on ceilings.
  8. Make your laundry room beautiful. You probably spend a lot of time there.
  9. If there is any space in your home that you do not love, start the plan to change it today!
  10. If you don’t have a budget for major changes, begin by doing whatever you would do if you were putting your home on the market.
